At Hydrogen Expo in Piacenza, Comau puts advanced automation at the service of the hydrogen industry

Piacenza – September 11th, 2024

Comau attends the HYDROGEN EXPO in Piacenza (Hall 1, Booth B90, September, 11-13), the most important Italian exhibition for the hydrogen industry community. The exhibition, which is also attended by H2IT, the Italian Hydrogen Association joined by Comau earlier in 2024, brings together key professionals committed to the innovation in the hydrogen industry sector.

Comau strongly believes in the growth perspective of the global hydrogen market, over the next decade. Industry associations and market researchers confirm the growing trend. The European Environment Agency, for example, reports that more than a quarter of total CO2 emissions in Europe comes from transports: the transition to fuel-efficient vehicles, powered by renewable sources such as hydrogen, therefore becomes a priority to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and get closer to the EU goal of total decarbonization. IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, estimates that hydrogen will be equal to 12 percent of global energy consumption by 2050; the Agency also says that the cost of hydrogen infrastructures and plants could decrease from 40 percent to 80 percent in the coming years. According to McKinsey (Hydrogen Insights, December 2023, Hydrogen Council) it is expected that we will be counting about 1,400 clean hydrogen projects worldwide, reaching a value of over 330 billion dollars.

To support its customers, and to support the growth of this market, at the HYDROGEN EXPO in Piacenza Comau will make available to the companies present and other visitors its experience, skills and latest technologies-from the different families of robots that the company produces in Grugliasco (Turin), to vision systems (MI. portfolio. RA), to software for IoT (in.Grid)-capable of automating the key steps in the manufacture of components and machinery for the production of electrolyzers and fuel cells, from preparation to stacking, compression, welding and leak testing.

Comau’s solutions are already in use at leading hydrogen customers globally. There are several projects underway, from Europe to China to the United States, and they focus on fuel cell stacking and welding applications for the production of alkaline electrolyzer components.

“Advanced automation and digitalization are key pillars for building an effective and sustainable hydrogen economy in the long term. By participating in this event, Comau confirms its role as a strategic partner in the market, able to help companies increase production volumes, improving the quality of products and manufacturing processes while decreasing processing costs, thanks to safe, sustainable and repeatable processes on an industrial scale.”.

Lucrezia Morabito, Product and Solution Manager for Comau’s Advanced Automation Solutions Business Unit.

The contribution of Comau’s advanced automation, scalable and supported by concurrent design, thus becomes critical in the future adoption of large-scale hydrogen technologies.

Comau welcomes visitors and partners in Piacenza to show the excellence of automation at the service of hydrogen-related manufacturing processes. Hydrogen Expo free registration here.
