Shanghai, Jan 10, 2024 – Comau was presented with two prestigious awards by Dongfeng Cummins during the engine manufacturer’s “2023 Supplier Conference” and “High Horsepower Plant P5 Acceptance and First QSM15 Offline Ceremony” held on December 19th and 26th respectively in Xiangyang, Hubei Province.
Wang Wei, Comau Head of Projects Execution Management APAC, received the “Best Cooperation Award” and “Excellent Partner Award” honors, both of which were given to acknowledge Comau’s outstanding performance on its engine production line creation project in terms of technical competence, project performance and collaborative communication.
With longstanding expertise in industrial automation, including powertrain assembly, Comau has been providing innovative solutions to customers worldwide for over 50 years. As such, when creating the Dongfeng Cummins Legend diesel engine auxiliary and cylinder head sub-assembly production line, Comau was able to achieve a high level of automation while helping the customer improve both its process quality and engineering design. Comau also leveraged advanced engineering techniques to successfully implement automated press fitting for critical processes such as conduit valve seats, bowl plugs, cylinder liners and O-rings.
Throughout the design and deployment process, the Comau team demonstrated efficient collaboration, rapid response, proactive risk identification and mitigation, and reliable on-site customer support. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the team was able to complete the high-quality delivery of the diesel auxiliary production line with an automation rate exceeding 80%, earning strong praise and recognition from the customer.
The partnership between Dongfeng Cummins and Comau started in 2007, when Comau successfully delivered the first automated sub-assembly line for diesel engine cylinder heads. The 16-year-old automated assembly line is still operating efficiently and has built a strong reputation for Comau’s solutions in terms of reliability and sustainability.
