Comau to investigate sustainable battery remanufacturing strategies at e_mob 2021

Turin, October 14, 2021Comau joins the launch of the Italian Electric Mobility Festival, October 16-19, 2021 in Milan (Italy) by participating in a pre-conference technical round table held October 14 at Auditorium Testori, Piazza Città di Lombardia from 9.30-12.30. During the conference, Paolo Tebaldi, Comau Strategic Marketing Specialist, will focus on strategies to bring electric vehicle batteries into the circular economy with a presentation titled, “Automation and management of end-of-life batteries”.

With specific reference to the use of collaborative robotics and vision systems as key enablers of safe and efficient automated battery disassembly and reassembly, Tebaldi will explore adopting robotics to make the re-manufacturing of resource demanding batteries both economically and technically feasible. More specifically, he will touch upon issues such as the need for high repeatability and quality of the repurposed battery, the reduction of the product cost for use in less demanding applications, better safety for operators and compliance with the circularity principals.

Comau’s participation in the event is aligned with the company’s involvement in a collaborative effort to develop a national supply chain for end-of-life management of lithium batteries. To this end, Comau, together with other electrification companies, research organizations, universities and institutions, aims to identify technologically viable solutions for the repurposing of automotive batteries as part of a sustainable and circular value chain.
