Palermo, April 16
Comau brought its vision for increasingly efficient, intelligent and customized industrial automation to IEEE SIMPAR 2025, an international conference dedicated to simulation, modeling and programming for autonomous robots, held at the CNR Research Area in Palermo, April 14-16.
An opportunity for international discussion and networking that each year brings together researchers and experts from academia and industry, during which Comau illustrated applications and automation solutions – based on the use of Artificial Intelligence, innovative programming languages and 3D vision systems – developed to optimize manufacturing processes in multiple industries.
During the event, on April 16, Enrico Civitelli, Machine Learning Engineer for Comau’s Advanced Automation Solutions (AAS) division, spoke at the panel discussion “Innovative Digital Technologies for Robotics Toward Industry 5.0” sponsored by SIRI (Italian Association of Robotics and Automation), presenting Comau’s commitment to respond to a growing demand for advanced, highly customized, flexible and intelligent technologies capable of operating in sensitive and unstructured work environments.
In particular, Civitelli illustrated the features and operational benefits of two AI-based solutions of the MI.RA (Machine Inspection Recognition Archetypes) family: MI.RA/OnePicker, a vision system for intelligent picking of generic and heterogeneous parts in any work area, and MI.RA/Depalletizer, which automates single and mixed SKU depalletizing tasks through 3D robotic guidance and machine learning algorithms. Finally, MI.RA/Dexter, a software for simplified and guided programming of robotic applications. To demonstrate the effectiveness of these solutions, Comau showcased a best-in-class use case with the implementation for a major aerospace customer of a robotic system for quality and maintenance inspection of helicopter blades that employs vision, low-code programming and AI systems.
“The IEEE SIMPAR conference is a stimulating event of great interest to a company like Comau, which has more than 50 years of experience in global industry, in a variety of sectors, and an ongoing commitment to innovation. Knowledge exchange is fundamental to industrial progress, which is why Comau collaborates with international universities and research centers and makes its technical and managerial knowledge available to scholars and young talents to inspire the development of advanced technological solutions capable of transforming visionary projects into concrete industrial solutions.”
