Grugliasco, March 7
A celebratory event for International Women’s Day, “Breaking Boundaries: Women Leading the Future of Technology“, was held on Tuesday, March 4, at Comau’s headquarters in Grugliasco.
Moderated by Stefania Ferrero, Chief Marketing Officer of Comau, and Simona Mariani, General Counsel of the company, the conference addressed crucial topics not only in the public eye but also about personal and professional life. The event highlighted how companies that adopt Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies achieve better business outcomes. It also underscored the value of collaboration between men and women, particularly in STEM fields, as a strategic element for growth and innovation.
Pietro Gorlier, Chief Executive Officer of Comau, opened the event by affirming the company’s growing commitment to valuing diversity as part of its mission and corporate culture. This provides Comau a competitive advantage, improves decision-making processes, and delivers better solutions for clients. He also emphasized the importance of Comau’s gender equality certification in Italy and the establishment of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to set clear and measurable goals for the company and its employees.
Special guests Silvia Bodoardo, a professor at the Polytechnic University of Turin in the Department of Applied Science and Technology, and Eugenia Famiglietti, Senior Manager of corporate strategy at Baker Hughes, shared their professional experiences, recounting their personal journeys. They reflected on the evolution of women’s roles in management, offering insights into the role of women in the technology sector.
During the event, Livio Milano, Chief Human Resources Officer of Comau, reiterated the company’s concrete commitment to strengthening recruitment and career development processes, ensuring equitable growth opportunities and greater female representation within the company. This translates into tangible actions, such as the continual inclusion of female candidates in talent pools and targeted professional development programs.
Dedicated pathways for students have been created to foster change even before entering the workforce, involving the company’s women in STEM as ambassadors in schools. The goals of these initiatives are not only to provide tangible role models to inspire female students but also to guide them toward technical/scientific paths with greater awareness and confidence in their capabilities.
A central theme in the discussion was the evolution of female leadership, from overcoming stereotypes and biases to valuing mentorship as a crucial tool for professional growth. Various speakers shared their success stories, highlighting the importance of inclusive language and fair representation of roles.
Contributing to the discussion were Christina Plumer (Advanced Industrial Operations, Comau North America), Hanmei Shen (Engineering-PWT, Comau China), Michele Moriondo (Development Engineering Manager – e-mobility GCC, Europe), and Giulio Scifo (Sales Advanced Automation Solutions), each bringing their experiences to support Comau’s commitment to gender equality and inclusion.
This event is part of a broader program of initiatives demonstrating the company’s dedication to these themes. Events such as the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification obtained at the end of 2024, participation in the “Just the Woman I Am” charity run/walk, which raises funds for health research and gender equality studies, the “Comau Team Run Together” team, and many more coming up in the next few months. Comau continues to stand out in promoting an inclusive work environment and advocating for gender equality.
